This website: A night full of emotions in Fulelli

By Petra van der Veen, 11 January 2010 12:08

The concert in Fulelli was a night full of emotions. Actually I can not say anything more about it at this place. To read the full story click here, for pictures of the concert click here. The videos are of the new songs “Tu Mi Manchi” and “Peccatu”. Absolute stunning!

Video Canzona di u Rizzanese, Giru 2009

Rizzanese

Rizzanese in Corsica

The Rizzanese is an endangered river in southern Corsica. Since 2007 a 40 meter high dam is being under construction, which should be ready in 2012. The purpose of the dam is generating electricity. You can read all about it on this website, where you can still sign the petition.

I Muvrini and the Rizzanese

I Muvrini has taken the fate of the river to their hearts. They support the protest campaign against the building. Prior to the Giru, they released a single CD with one song, the “Canzona di u Rizzanese”, and the instrumental version as well. Every evening at the Giru they played that song, that Jean-François Bernardini initiated with this text:

Translated into English

(…) This is perhaps more true where the Rizzanese, one of the most beautiful rivers in the world; belonging to 3% of the cleanest and most pristine rivers in Europe; is currently dying because of the construction of a dam. A dam that we have decided and chosen to build. Did we fully, consciously make that decision? I certainly have no answer, except we might consider the fact that in fifteen minutes, the sun deposits an amount of energy on the planet that is equivalent to the global energy consumption during one year. And we are certainly not lacking in sunshine- but, perhaps we lack the eyes to be able to see it. But, I just want to say that it is perhaps worthwhile to try and sing along with the rivers, and that the most disfiguring part could be our indifference. Just trying to understand the rivers can give us something; something that is much bigger; something that is more timeless than electric energy…..Just talking about the sadness- the disgust, even, at the sight of the gaping wound that the valley of the Rizzanese has become today….with thousands of mutilated trees and forests cut down by bulldozers…Hear, hear the song of the flow of the river “sente cantà u fiume, sente cantà u Rizzanese” – tomorrow we might be missing him…

Cum’è una fata chì si chjina – Like a fairy bending down
Pè facci sparte lu so onore, un fiume corre – To make us share its dignity a river flows
Cum’è ghjuvellu di favore un fiume corre – Like a jewel, like a favor, a river flows…

The 23rd of the next August will be “A Canzona di u Rizzanese ” day. It will take place in Sozza (Propriano) with a concert allowing the voices of the Rizzanese to be heard. And even though it is in the presence of a construction site worth two hundred million euros … all the gold in the world can never, ever buy back the wealth of the Rizzanese …

Indeed, the concert in Propriano was dedicated to the Rizzanese. More on that later.

It seemed a good idea to me to start the new year with the conviction that we can still protect nature rather than damage it. Please sign the petition.

The following video was shot at the concert in Francardu, on August 21 during the Giru 2009. Below is the text of the translation of this beautiful song followed by the official video, the studio version of this song.

Canzona di u Rizzanese – Song of the Rizzanese

Sottu à u celu chì macina Under a restless sky
Cum’è una fata chì si chjina Like a fairy bending down
Sin’ à l’arice di marina Towards the seashore
Un fiume corre A river flows
Un ci hè più fiore chì  ùn la sà There is no flower that does not know
Ogni funtana o trizinà No source and no bird
Quì ci hè da pienghje pè àvà From now on we just fell like crying this is a place to cry
In terra sacra sai o Mà Do you know mama, on this sacred ground
Sò triste l’ore it is a sad time
Pè facci sparte lu s’onore un fiume corre To make us share its dignity a river flows
Cum’è ghjuvellu di favore un fiume corre Like a jewel, like a favor, a river flows
Di paccutiglia è di parè pesanu un maghju pè un rè From triviality and appearance they’re erecting a pylon for a king
U paradisu hà brusgià mettenu focu à u campà The paradise will burn life itself is put to fire
Sò triste l’ore It is a sad time
D’una traita un crepacore un fiume more Because of a betrayal a heartache a river is dying
Cum’è una spada in lu so core un fiume more Like from a sword in his heart a river is dying
S’è tù ci pensi à l’onde chjare ùn statti fora And when you think of the bright waves, please do not stay outside
Di fà u mondu chì  ci pare hè ghjunta l’ora The time has come to build the world we dream of
Cum’è una terra chì si pesa As a world rising high
Cum’è un sole cum’è un cantu anu da turnà Like a sun like a song they will return
Cum’è una terra chì si pesa Like a world rising high
I nostri cori i nostri andà i nostri venti anu da girà… our roads our hearts, our ways our winds must change

Benefit concert for the fight against cancer in Biguglia (Corsica)

By Petra van der Veen, 27 November 2009 23:04

A benefit concert for the fight against cancer will take place in Biguglia in Corsica on Friday, December 11. I Muvrini will also occur there, along with Alain Abad, Rachel et Betty and Orizonte. If you have attended the concert of Muvrini in Saint Florent or Bastia on Corsica, then you might have seen Alain Abad as support act. Click here to watch a video of his performance in Bastia. You might know Orizonte of their contribution “U Studiente” on the double CD “Pour une Fondation de Corse”. Rachel et Betty is a comedy duo of which you can find several videos on the internet. Click here to watch a video of theirs with a persiflage of the beautiful song “L’anniversariu di Minetta” in the background. Too bad they talk through it!

The hall will open at 21:00 and tickets (€ 30) can be purchased at the Géant Casino in Furiani and Toga, Bastia: the jeweller’s Vanucci and Julien Dorcel, Boutiques Alexandre and at the hall on the night of the concert. That hall is the Saint Sébastien in Biguglia, which is located on Route National 193.
